What happens in the His Three Daughters trailer?

The official trailer introduces Elizabeth Olsen, Carrie Coon and Natasha Lyonne as sisters who have decided to come back home to take care of their dying father in his final days. However, this reunion forces them to uncover each of their grievances with each other.

His Three Daughters is written and directed by Azazel Jacobs. The film also stars Rudy Galvan, Jose Febus, Jasmine Bracey, with Jay O. Sanders and Jovan Adepo. In addition to leading the cast, Olsen, Coon and Lyonne are also executive producing alongside Maya Rudolph, Danielle Renfrew Behrens, Neil Shah, Max Silva, Peter Friedland, Sophia Lin. It is produced by Jacobs, Alex Orlovsky, Duncan Montgomery, Matt Aselton, Marc Marrie, Mal Ward, Lia Buman, Tim Headington, Jack Selby and Diaz Jacobs.

“The film is a bittersweet and often funny story of an elderly patriarch and the three grown daughters who come to be with him in his final days,” reads the synopsis. “Katie (Coon) is a controlling Brooklyn mother dealing with a wayward teenage daughter; free-spirited Christina (Olsen) is a different kind of mom, separated from her offspring for the first time; and Rachel (Lyonne) is a sports-betting stoner who has never left her father’s apartment — much to the chagrin of her half-sisters, who share a different mother and worldview. Continuing his astute exploration of family dynamics in close-knit spaces, Jacobs follows the siblings over the course of three volatile days, as death looms, grievances erupt, and love seeps through the cracks of a fractured home.”
