Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Garrett Wilson showed good signs of connection last year. Training camp and even a preseason game was an indicator of the talent level, which included a touchdown against the New York Giants.

Rodgers' injury after four offensive plays didn't allow the connection to be realized during the regular season, but the main pieces of the New York Jets' offense haven't given up.

On day 2 of this year's training camp, Rodgers had a great practice. He completed four of four passes in 7-on-7s, and nine of 11 in 11-on-11s. The activity was finalized with a touchdown to Allen Lazard for the second consecutive day.

However, the big highlight of the day was a big completion near the sideline to Garrett Wilson.

    Confidence

Beyond thinking Garrett Wilson has the talent to be a truly elite offensive weapon, Aaron Rodgers also mentioned how the young receiver can have a leadership role inside the locker room.

"It's important for [Wilson] to step into a greater leadership role. The way you cement that is by your work on the field," Rodgers said on Wednesday. "I told him in the meeting yesterday, I think he has the talent and the ability to be the best receiver in the league."

Rodgers mentioned Davante Adams , now with the Las Vegas Raiders, as a great example to show Wilson what it takes to play at the highest level.

"I'm biased, I think 17 in Las Vegas (Adams) has been that for the last five or six years," Rodgers mentioned. "He didn't get that by just showing up. He got that by the way he worked. His level of excellence and attention to detail in my time in Green Bay was second to none. He just practiced like that all the time. He had a mindset when he stepped on the field of dominating and that carried over to the games. We used to talk when we were driving to Lambeau Field on the day of the game, it wasn't, 'Are we going to win today?'. It was, 'How bad are we going to dominate?'.

Garrett Wilson has been a top receiver even with subpar quarterback play. He had 1,103 receiving yards as a rookie in 2022 and 1,042 yards last season, totalling seven touchdowns. In 2024, with Aaron Rodgers under center, everything can go to a new level.
