PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – In a unanimous vote, Oregon Democratic delegates backed Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential nominee, the Democratic Party of Oregon announced Wednesday.

In a statement, DPO Chait Dr. Rosa Colquitt said, “We are thrilled and energized to announce that our delegation has voted to support Kamala Harris for President. We saw an immediate influx of volunteer sign-ups after the news broke that President Biden was endorsing Vice President Harris, and they haven’t slowed down.”

“Protecting reproductive freedom, voting rights, marriage equality, and our very democracy will require all of us to come together. Democrats stand firmly united in our resolve to ensure that in Inauguration Day 2025, we hear the name ‘President Kamala Harris’ announced as the 47 th President of the United States,” Colquitt continued.

The vote comes ahead of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois Aug. 19-22.

DPO previously released a statement on President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race — pledging support for the next Democratic nominee.

“Oregon Democrats stand firmly with our President, who has ushered in a historic economic recovery at a time when most countries have struggled to bounce back from the global recession. What President Biden has achieved during his presidency is unparalleled and should make all Americans proud. We look forward to supporting him as he completes his term of office, and to working to support our new Democratic nominee to soundly defeat the existential threat of a Donald Trump election in November,” Colquitt said.
