    Inside Out 2 tops Frozen as highest-grossing animated movie as flick earns $1.5 billion at box office

    There's a new animated movie that has beaten Frozen as the highest-grossing animated movie of all time .

    Inside Out 2 has taken the honor making $1.46 billion at the global box office which has surpassed Frozen II in 2019 according to Disney . The animated movie is a sequel to the 2015 Inside Out which followed a the five personified emotions (Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust) of pre-teen Riley as she navigated a new change in her life. Then the sequel features a Riley entering puberty as a 13 year old and dealing with new personified emotions this time such as Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment.

    The animated film has a star studded ensemble voice cast with Amy Poehler, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, Phyllis Smith, Kensington Tallman, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar, Grace Lu, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, Paul Walter Hauser and Yvette Nicole Brown.

    Last month, Inside Out 2 came out in theaters on June 14 and it proceeded to make the 1 Billion Dollar club in 19 days which is the quickest for any animated film ever yet.

    The Pixar film is also the highest-grossing film of 2024 to date, and the only one to go over $1B so far. In the list of all time grossing films, Inside out 2 sits at No. 13, it knocked juggernaut 2023 smash hit Barbie with $1.446 billion. This is not the only record Inside Out 2 made, it also dethroned The Incredibles 2 ($1.242 billion) globally to become the top-grossing Pixar film worldwide.

    "Inside Out 2 is a quintessentially Pixar film, and it’s been amazing to see how it has connected so deeply with people all over the world,” Alan Bergman, Co-Chairman, Disney Entertainment, said about the news. “We knew it was really special, but no one could have predicted it would reach these record-breaking heights. We’re grateful to all the fans who have made this the biggest animated film ever.”

    Seven of the top ten grossing animated films are either produced by Pixar or Walt Disney Animation Studios. There has been no confirmation of a third installment in the franchise but a third one could be possible with the success of the second film.

    Also the director Kelsey Mann furthered that hope by when in a June interview with USA Today , he said there a "whole stockpile of ideas" to tap into about a potential third sequel and how the "audience really wants" it.
