Inside Prince Harry's heartbreak hell: Leaving Frogmore Cottage and Royal family's Eviction Notice

Prince Harry has expressed his regret over leaving Frogmore Cottage , his former Royal haven within Windsor Castle.

Frogmore Cottage was the inaugural home for Harry and his spouse Meghan Markle during their Royal tenure. The duo received Frogmore as a gift from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2019, funding an extensive refurbishment independently following initial use of public funds, which were subsequently reimbursed.

Nonetheless, their occupancy in the five-bedroom residence was fleeting, announcing their resignation from the Royal family by the end of 2019 and departing in 2020. Frogmore housed the royally coupled pair during the early moments of their relationship.

Snapshots of their time there were revealed in their Netflix documentary series.

In 'Spare,' his autobiography, Harry reminisced about a requested meeting with Charles and William subsequent to his grandfather Prince Philip's funeral service. As he awaited the arrival of the others at Frogmore Cottage, a wave of sorrow enveloped him upon realizing that the formerly envisioned, 'forever home' would not bear true.

His emotions immortalized into words: "Once upon a time, this was going to be my forever home. Instead it had proved to be just another brief stop."

In his forthcoming memoir, Prince Harry revealed that he and Meghan Markle were 'evicted' from their cottage following their step back from Royal duties. It was reported in March 2023 that King Charles had requested the Sussexes to vacate Frogmore Cottage, with a source informing The Standard: "The Sussex's are no longer leasing Frogmore Cottage. That privilege has been removed. It's over for them in the UK. If they want a residence in the UK they will have to buy one privately."

From there, it took until June 2023 for Harry and Meghan to complete returning the keys to Frogmore Cottage. Their remaining possessions were then sent off to California, and around this time, courtier Sir Michael Stevens publicly announced, " We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have vacated Frogmore Cottage."

Harry also considers this event as marking his official start as a US resident.

Alongside the property shuffle, when King Charles served the eviction notice to Harry and Meghan, rumors claim he was considering a variety of housing options for his brother, Prince Andrew. This was following the request for Prince Andrew to leave the Royal Lodge in the wake of his controversy tied to his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

A source revealed that Charles informed Harry and Meghan of his desire for them to vacate Frogmore Cottage to "allow someone else to move in", sparking rumors that it was intended for Andrew. Initially, the cottage was occupied by Harry's cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her husband Jack Brooksbank in November 2020.

However, they subsequently relocated to another Royal residence, leaving Frogmore Cottage unoccupied.
