Backstage News On Mark Briscoe’s Chair Shot To Jack Perry During Blood & Guts Match

During this week’s episode of Dynamite, Mark Briscoe would hit Jack Perry with a brutal-looking chair shot. Yet, while the Blood & Guts match was always going to be hard-hitting, some fans online felt this went too far, with WWE’s Corey Graves even taking to X and, in a now-deleted tweet noting chair shots ended his in-ring career.

However, it has now been reported by Bryan Alavez during Wrestling Observer Radio that the chair used was gimmicked, which had already been suspected because the chair had “ Scapegoat ” written on it to differentiate it from others.

While chair shots to the head began to be phased out following the Chris Benoit tragedy in 2007, WWE officially banned them at the start of 2010 by updating their Talent Wellness Program. Yet some suspect it wasn’t due to concern over talent’s health but because of Linda McMahon’s campaign to become Senator. And while AEW obviously wasn’t around at this time, it’s understood that in July 2023, the promotion sent a memo to talents prohibiting them from using chairs and other weapons without it being cleared in advance and with safety protocols followed.
