Phoenix Mercury guard Rebecca Allen has been ruled out for the 2024 Paris Olympics after she sustained a high-grade hamstring injury during Australia's final Olympic tune-up game against Canada in Segovia, Spain on Tuesday.

The Australian Olympic Team made the unfortunate announcement on Thursday — just one day before the Opening Ceremony.

Allen, a ninth-year WNBA pro, is understandably heartbroken by this news.

"Shattered," the Mercury guard wrote on X.

“I have been looking forward to these Games for a long time and am absolutely devastated but I will now focus my energies on recovery and supporting my Opals sisters,” Allen added in an official statement.

Allen, 31, was set to take part in her second Olympic Games before this crushing injury. Her spot on the Australian team's 12-woman roster will be filled by Amy Atwell.

“Bec is such a big part of our team and has been for a long time," head coach Sandy Brondello said in a statement. "This injury has come at a really unfortunate time and the call had to be made upon medical advice."

“Amy Atwell has been part of this Olympic squad all year and with us in Spain for our practice matches," Brondello continued. "She will now come into the team and all the staff and players have every confidence in Amy."

Australia will tipoff this year's Olympic campaign with a matchup against Nigeria on July 29.
