The talk of training camp on Wednesday was the bomb Drake Maye completed to Jalen Reagor down the sideline for a touchdown.

On Thursday, we saw a different tool utilized from Maye’s toolbelt, as the rookie quarterback was working underneath the defense during eleven-on-eleven and seven-on-seven drills.

We did not see Maye forcing anything downfield, and there were no errant throws to speak of.

One notable pass from Maye’s day two was during the seven-on-seven period, where the rookie quarterback stepped up in the pocket and hit his fellow rookie Ja’Lynn Polk slanting through the middle of the defense. It’s a throw we saw Tom Brady make countless times with enormous success over his 20 years in New England - a staple of his two minute drill arsenal.

A strong connection between Maye and Polk is something both the Patriots organization and fanbase should be hopeful for for years to come.

But when asked about his relationship with Maye, Polk - at the moment - is not playing favorites with his quarterbacks.

“I have a great relationship with all the QBs,” said Polk. “It was the same thing at [the University of] Washington. I take pride in, you know, having a great relationship with the guys on the team. Everyone’s doing a great job, it’s exciting.”

Maye is clearly prioritizing his connection with the rookie wide receivers, as he was spotted getting in some extra throws after practice on Thursday with Javon Baker, the fourth-round pick known for his big plays at Central Florida.

Also spotted on the field during day two was owner Robert Kraft chatting with defensive end Matthew Judon, who spoke on Wednesday about his displeasure with his current contract situation.

What the two talked about? We can only speculate.

Is this any sort of indication that a new deal is incoming? No.

What we do know is Judon made an impact during day two, notably during the second eleven-on-eleven period. He put great pressure on Jacoby Brissett, forcing an incompletion on a ball that would have been batted down.

No impact was felt on Thursday from the other defensive lineman with contractual gripes, as Davon Godchaux was seen on the field as a non-participant.

Is this the beginning of a “hold in?” We’ll have to wait and see.

Day three gets underway Friday at 11 a.m.
