A 36-year-old man was taken into custody after a pursuit ended in a crash on Interstate 70 in Clark County Thursday morning.

At approximately 7:19 a.m., a Clark County deputy saw a stolen vehicle out of Dayton pull out of a Speedway gas station in the Village of Enon, according to a spokesperson for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle but it immediantly fled.

The deputy pursued the vehicle, which made several turns to evade the deputy, the spokesperson said. At one point the vehicle entered a cul-de-sac on Dorhman Drive and the suspect proceeded to drive through a yard hitting two fences before re-entering the road.

Other deputies joined the pursuit as the suspect vehicle got onto I-70 EB.

Once on the highway, the deputy attempted a PIT maneuver in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The suspect hit his brakes causing unintentional contact by the deputy before the PIT could be performed.

The suspect vehicle dove into the median and the deputy attempted a second PIT maneuver which caused the van to spin out in the grass.

The vehicle tried to flee again, but another cruiser pulled in front of him and the vehicle hit the cruiser disabling both cars.

The driver fled from the vehicle on foot but was taken into custody at 7:24 a.m.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office later received reports that the suspect had been in multiple pursuits in the early morning hours with “several other agencies.” The spokesperson said additional charges could likely be forthcoming from those other agencies.

About a mile behind where the pursuit ended, two semis were involved in a crash as highway traffic was slowing down.

The preliminary investigation revealed a semi, driven by Marc Zulme, 30, of Morrisville, Pa., was heading east on I-70 when it hit the back of another semi, driven by Adam Patton, 50, of Kansas City, Mo., according to a spokesperson from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Zulme was flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Patton suffered minor injuries.
