Much like her outspoken prostitute character, Vanessa Carlyle, in the “Deadpool” movies — who proudly announced, “I’ve played a lot of roles, but damsel in distress ain’t one of them” — Brazilian-born New York-based actress Morena Baccarin is known for playing strong characters. She was commanding as Anna, the leader of the aliens in the 2000’s reboot of “V”. She was outstanding as Jessica Brody, the wife of a Marine turned terrorist (played by Damian Lewis) in the espionage drama, “Homeland,” which scored her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. And Comic-Con fans adored her as scientist, Dr. Leslie Thompkins, on the crime drama “Gotham,” centered around the Batman universe. (That series is where she fell in love with now-husband Ben McKenzie , who starred in the pivotal role of Jim Gordon).
She won’t give away any spoilers for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which hits theaters July 26, but the mom of three does spill that time has elapsed, but Vanessa has stayed true to character. “She is a survivor and someone that does not suffer fools,” Baccarin, 45, tells Alexa. It was fun for the Juilliard grad to get to see pals Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in action together on set, as well as “seeing some of the old gang… I won’t say who! You’ll have to watch the film!” she says.
The International Rescue Committee ambassador, who is on the board of Waterwell , a civically-minded theater in New York City, will be busy this summer doing press for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” as well as shooting in London and Iceland and taking some much-needed family time in Colorado. These are all the things the star — who can next be seen in the movie “Elevation,” as a scientist trying to save the world from giant bugs! — takes with her, no matter where she is in the world.
“All of her products are rich and super-hydrating. I especially love the balm. I carry it with me at all times since the size is perfect for travel. I also love her facials!”
“I can wear these anywhere, anytime and in fact they were my character Allison’s shoes for [my movie coming out in 2025] ‘Greenland: Migration’. They’re all-weather and sturdy.”
