Woman at heart of Geneva Co. ‘love triangle’ shooting arrested in Florida

HOLMES COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — A woman at the center of a deadly “love triangle” in Geneva County has been arrested on drug charges in the Florida panhandle just months after her husband was found guilty.

According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, Penny Carnley was arrested on Saturday, July 20, during a traffic stop and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A release from the HCSO claims Carnley was driving a GMC pickup when she was pulled over for a traffic violation, and Carnley admitted to the deputy she had a bag of meth on her before taking it out.

A K9 was released, and during the search of the truck, deputies found a loaded syringe lying on the floorboard that tested positive for methamphetamine, according to deputies.

Carnley was arrested alongside her passenger in the truck, Keith Miller. Miller faces the same charges.

In early 2023, Carnley was involved in what investigators called a “love triangle” murder, where her now husband, Jason Kersey, was found guilty of killing Carnley’s estranged boyfriend, Tony Dean.

According to the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office, Kersey shot Dean to death in the front yard of Kersey’s Samson home during a raging storm in January 2023.

Kersey and Carnley were married not long before Kersey was found guilty of manslaughter.
