It's so hard to be away from your pets while on vacation, no matter where you're going and how much fun you're having. It's impossible not to think about them and worry if they're okay without you. There's really no faster way to bring down the fun mood of a vacation than by realizing that while you're off having the time of your life, your dog is back home, missing you and wondering if you're ever going to come home. But then again, these times also lead to some of the happiest moments, like when you come home and finally reunite after so many days apart.

The dog in this TikTok video must have been dreaming about his parents when it was recorded, because when they showed up to surprise him after they were gone for more than a week, he almost didn't believe his eyes!

On Tuesday, July 23, @huntyyyboi shared this video of what happened when she came home from vacation and decided to pick her dog, a Shepherd mix, up late at night rather than waiting until the next morning to go get him after she was gone for 11 days. After a separation like that, you know that every minute counts!

Of course, the late hour meant that this pup was sound asleep when they finally showed up, so they had to wake him up when they got there. He woke up the way most of us do after a deep sleep — a little bleary eyed and confused. It seemed like he thought his parents were only in his dreams!

Once he finally was fully awake, it was easy to see, and he had plenty of excitement to go around. In a comment, his mom wrote that this was the longest they'd ever gone without seeing him, so there's no doubt everyone involved was very happy to be back together again.

    Do Dogs Dream?

Is it even possible that this dog thought that his parents showing up was part of a dream? Yes, because dogs do dream!

According to the American Kennel Club, researchers have discovered that dogs have similar dream patterns to humans. While asleep, they often dream about the things they love during the day — playing with their humans and dog friends, chasing after balls, going for a neighborhood walk.

Unfortunately, their ability to dream also means that dogs can have nightmares, too... but fortunately, you're around the cuddle and reassure them if it seems like they may have had a scary dream.

Watch your dog the next time they're napping and see if they act out their dreams, like moving their legs if they're dreaming about running. Puppies are more likely to do it, but it does happen all the time. It's too bad they can't tell us what they dreamed about when they wake up!
