    Senior League state champs honored by Council

    The Crook County Seniors Little League Baseball game struggled to score runs at the Western Regional tournament, going 1-2 before they were eliminated from the event.

    Representing the state of Oregon Crook County opened the event, which was held June 17-23 in Oakland, California, with an 11-0 loss to Northern California. The team rebounded to edge Colorado 3-2 in the first round of consolation, before being eliminated from the tournament with a 13-0 loss to the eventual champion Southern California.

    Southern California then went on to defeat Arizona 2-1, Hawaii 6-5, Northern California 11-1 and the host team from Oakland 7-5 to win the regional championship and advance to the Senior League Baseball World Series which started July 27 and continues through August 3 in Easley, South Carolina.

    The Crook County squad won the district tournament in Prineville then took the state title by winning the state tournament in Madras June 30.

    On Tuesday, July 23, the City Council of Prineville honored the team at its regular meeting. The coach and players were introduced individually and given a round of applause by the Council and those in attendance.
