    Biden loves Biden, not America

After announcing via tweet that he would not be seeking reelection, President Joe Biden was wheeled in front of a camera to address the nation Wednesday night to explain why he dropped out of the race and, presumably, why he is remaining as president of the United States.

Biden, or at the very least, those controlling his teleprompter and/or morphine drip, tried to frame the speech as a final act of humility: Good ol’ Joe proving once and for all that he is but a humble public servant.

He failed, despite stumbling through with phrases such as “I revere this office, but I love my country more,” “I’ve given my heart and my soul to our nation,” and while “it’s been the honor of my life to serve as your president,” the “defense of democracy, which is at stake” is “more important than any title.”

Ah yes, democracy, that wonderful system that allows the executive to leverage the federal justice system to try to jail his political opponent, create a system of incompetence that enables that opponent's attempted assassination, and then, when poll numbers collapse like Biden on a bike ride , hand vast campaign funds to an unelected alternative candidate.

“I draw strength and I find joy in working for the American people, but this sacred task of perfecting our union is not about me,” Biden slurred. “It’s about you, your families, your futures. It’s about we, the people, and we can never forget that. And I never have.”

Three “I”s and one “me,” but it’s all about us? Here’s the thing: It was never about us.

Instead of explaining why he is dropping out of the race 104 days before the election or simultaneously remaining as president-on-ice for 180 days, Biden used this speech as an impromptu State of the Union address in defense of his pathetic legacy.

And, like his political legacy, it was replete with lies.

He boasted of lowering costs for families, defending our freedoms and civil rights, and opposing hate and extremism. He promised to keep “speaking out” against gun violence and climate change and randomly brought up his infamous “cancer moonshot,” as if a simple lack of funding or political willpower has ever been the reason for our inability to cure cancer.

He bragged that he is the “first president in this century” to report that the United States is not at war “anywhere in the world,” as if billions in resources aren’t being sent to Ukraine, or Afghan allies didn’t fall from American planes during his disastrous withdrawal, or American citizens weren’t killed or taken hostage by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023.

He also called for “Supreme Court reform,” and he claimed to have created “nearly 16 million new jobs,” when these jobs aren’t new at all. And then, most laughable of all, he said that “we’re also securing the border” and “border crossings are lower today than when the previous administration left office.” This is not only untrue but also ignores the fact that border crossings spike during colder months.

“I’ve been blessed a million times in return with the love and support of the American people,” Biden said.

$10 million times, to be precise .

As the vultures circle his political career that is finally reaching its feeble end, Biden used what may be his final address to the nation to defend the Biden name. And, during his conclusion, he declared, “The great thing about America is here kings and dictators do not rule, the people do.”

Well, he’s half-right. Individual kings and dictators may not rule, but neither do the people.

If you want to know who runs the show, ask who is pulling the strings behind the final months of Biden’s Weekend at Bernie’s presidency. In the meantime, don’t be fooled by his last hurrah: This was always about him.
