Why are gas prices going up? It may not feel like it but Tennessee's gas prices are among the cheapest

Gas prices in Tennessee are a bit all over the map, with prices ranging from as low as $2.89 to almost $3.50 across the state.

Gas prices across the country have been fairly stable since the beginning of June, but AAA did state that some drivers may have seen a jump in prices due to a recent outage in Joliet, Illinois. But unless you were traveling to the Midwest, Tennessee really didn't feel the impact.

“Some of the uptick in gasoline prices may be due to a reported storm-related outage at the ExxonMobil refinery in Joliet, Illinois. That’s contributing to higher pump prices in the upper Midwest,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “Meanwhile, oil prices have fallen quite a bit lately. In April, a barrel of oil was in the upper $80s, but today, it is $10 a barrel cheaper. That might mitigate any upward pressure on pump prices.”

And if you think you are paying more at the pump, you aren't. Tennessee had one of the largest shifts in prices in July, but it was a reduction in price, according to AAA.

On average, Tennesseans are paying around $3.09 at the pump compared to $3.14 a week ago and had one of the cheapest gas prices in the nation right now.

    Here's what's happening.
