It was the Poulet Rouge week in the LSHL and in honour of its sponsor, goalie Tricia Deguire and captain Marie-Philip Poulin made sure they were not going to let their team down.

It started at the very beginning of the game, as Poulin received a pass from Concordia’s Emilie Lavoie and outsmarted goalie Arianne Leblanc with a deke in what is considered to be the fastest goal to start a game in LSHL’s history.

Poulin would score another fast goal later in the game, right after a faceoff. But she was not the only one to star on the offence.

Former Boston University Terrier, who will play at McGill next season, Catherine Foulem, score two beautiful goals, the first one on a one-timer and the other on a breakaway. She even tried to get a Michigan in, but Leblanc prevailed. Foulem impressed a lot of people on Monday and will be one to watch in the RSEQ.

    “The Wall” is back!

In the net, McGill’s alumni, Tricia Deguire, played her first game since having an injury that made her sit out all of last season. During that time, she found a job as video coach of the QMJHL Sherbrooke Phoenix , and even got to be behind the bench during the World Junior tournament, as head coach Gilles Bouchard was an assistant coach with the national team. It was the first time that a woman was behind a QMJHL bench since Daniele Sauvageau did it in 1999 with the Montreal Rocket.

Deguire was solid throughout the game on Monday, making people remember why her nickname was “The Wall” when she played with the Montreal Force in the PHF. She stopped Northeastern’s Elodie Caron on a breakaway and in the second period, she said no to Concordia’s Alexanne Boyer and Team Canada U18 blueliner Rosalie Breton on back-to-back breakaways. Allowing only four goals to a team that had 20 goals scored so far this season, on her first game back, is quite a feat.

Poulet Rouge won 7-4, their first win of the season. Poulet Rouge’s coach, Laurianne Rougeau, decided to play all three PWHL Montreal players together, making things harder on their opponents whenever Laura Stacey, Amanda Boulier and Poulin were on the ice. It was Emmy Fecteau’s Accent team first loss of the season and the first game in which they didn’t score 10 goals. It is also worth noting that Gabrielle Santerre took the week off and that Erin Ambrose was not there for a third consecutive week. There’s talk she won’t be playing this summer, healing an undisclosed injury.

    Philbert stops three penalty shots

The second game of the evening was particularly marked by the number of penalty shots. In the LSHL, penalties are replaced by penalty shots. Montreal Paddle Board’s Alice Philbert had three against her, but neither Concordia’s Jessymaude Drapeau, Ottawa Gee-Gees’ Florence Lessard, nor Montreal Carabins’ Kelly-Ann Nadeau were able to score. On the other end, Brigitte Laganière succeeded against goalie Jade Rivard-Coulombe.

Montreal Paddle Board won 9-4 over LiveBarn, and part of that was because of Concordia’s Emilie Lussier, who was a menace all game long. Jade Downie-Landry and Gabrielle David also had their say in that second win of the season for the black jersey team.

But what’s even more important than wins and losses is that it was a women’s division attendance record on Monday, with $1,860 raised for pancreatic cancer research.
