Merry Christmas in July! All About the Pre-Holiday Event and How You Can Celebrate

    By Jenna Fanelli,

It’s the holiday so nice, we celebrate it twice! Christmas in July is being celebrated around the world today, July 25, exactly five months ahead of the “most wonderful time of the year”! While we have the sun shining instead of snow falling and the temperature is just a bit too high to bundle up for winter festivities, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate. Just take a look at the famous Radio City Rockettes, who kicked off the festivities bright and early on the TODAY Show plaza complete with their dazzling red costumes and trademark high kicks!

“It’s usually like 15 degrees when you come, so I’m glad you guys are here and the weather is actually pretty nice,” show host Craig Melvin quipped to the dancers. The group took the opportunity to officially announce that they would return for this year’s 91st annual Christmas Spectacular beginning Nov. 8, which is a bit of an extended performance run compared to the year’s past.

    What is Christmas in July?

Christmas in July is simply a celebration of the fact that the beloved holiday is less than half a year away!

In the United States, the idea is said to have been born at a girls’ camp in North Carolina “out of creativity and enthusiasm for the holiday,” explains Christmas tree company Balsam Hill . “In Europe and Australia, apart from the strong fervor for the holiday spirit, this occasion is also related to the weather. Europeans longed for the coolness of December, while Australians associated their July winter with the cold Christmases of countries in the Northern Hemisphere.”
