Glory and gold will be on the line when many of the world's best men's and women's tennis players square off at the 2024 Summer Olympics beginning Saturday on the famed red clay at Roland Garros. The competition will award medals in men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles. The men's and women's singles draws each will feature 64 players.
On the men's side, reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain is the +150 favorite in the 2024 Olympics odds, while world No. 1 and Australian Open champ Jannik Sinner of Italy is the +275 second choice. On the women's side, four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek is the overwhelming -180 favorite. Play begins Saturday and runs through Aug. 4. Before you make any 2024 Summer Olympics tennis picks or predictions, you need to see what SportsLine tennis handicapper Jose Onorato has to say .
Onorato grew up playing competitive tennis in Caracas, Venezuela. After coming to the U.S., he trained with famed coach Nick Bollettieri at IMG Academy in Florida and faced players like Robert Farah, now one of the world's top-ranked doubles players.
Onorato, who holds dual degrees in finance and economics from the University of Miami, does extensive research before placing any tennis bets. He studies current form, players' tendencies on a particular surface, weather conditions and many other relevant factors. That systematic approach has helped Onorato go 168-106-9 (+107.12 units) since 2022. Two months ago in the 2024 French Open at Roland Garros, he correctly picked Iga Swiatek (-160) to win the women's title.
One surprise: Onorato is completely fading Iga Swiatek in women's singles, even though she is the overwhelming favorite, at -180. Ranked No. 1 in the world, Swiatek is 47-5 this year and has won five singles titles. The last time she was at Roland Garros, she won the French Open singles title in May.
But Onorato believes that the price is too rich on Swiatek, who's -180 in the latest 2024 Paris Olympics odds. No other player is shorter than +650. "I prefer putting money where there's more value," Onorato told SportsLine. You can see whom to pick here .
How to make 2024 Paris Olympics predictions
Instead, Onorato's best bet in women's singles is a longshot who is "having a breakout season" and would pay more than +2000. On the men's side Onorato is high on a doubles team that is priced at more than +2500. He's sharing his picks and analysis only at SportsLine .
