Psychologists suggest that those in the throes of new love should hold off on making it official for at least two months . This allows time to truly get to know their potential partner, rather than leaving everything up to 'hope and chance'.

However, one woman had a unique dating dilemma - she was in a relationship with her boyfriend for four months without knowing his actual name. Caught between thinking his name was either Patrick or Richard, she resorted to some detective work and finally discovered his real name on his car documents, reports the Mirror .

"I found out my then-boyfriend's name after four months of dating him. I wasn't sure if his name was Patrick or Richard, so I just didn't call him anything," she confessed on Reddit .

"This was before internet and stuff (no Facebook, etc), and I finally figured it out after checking the insurance card in his glove compartment when he briefly left the car one time."

After uncovering his true identity, their relationship quickly escalated - they got engaged and even set a wedding date. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in divorce, and now, she admits to "calling him completely different names in her head."

Her candid admission sparked amusement among Reddit users, prompting others to share their own awkward experiences of getting someone's name wrong. One user shared: "I have a coworker who always calls me Joe, I've never corrected him even though it's not my name."

"Now it's been five years and I'm not even sure how I'd address it. I don't see him a lot, maybe once or twice a week."

Adding their comment to the discussion , another user said: "Some people are super touchy about their names, and some people don't care at all."

"I fall into the latter category. People mess up my name all the time - as long as I know they're talking to me, I really don't care."

"I know a lot of people who are touchy about you so much as using the wrong nickname."

Providing her personal experience, a third user said: "Some people are just bad with names. My husband called a good friend of mine Nancy for a good two years when her name was Suzanne. We just laughed about it."
