The Duke of Sussex appeared in a revealing TV documentary about phone hacking today. Titled Tabloids on Trial, the tell-all program exposed the illegal techniques some journalists employed to access the voicemail accounts of celebrities and public figures (including Prince Harry himself).

In the documentary, the royal spare revealed that he felt “vindicated” by his legal victory against tabloids. You see, the father of two won a legal battle against the tabloid press back in December 2023. Ultimately, it was proven that he, in fact, was a victim of phone hacking.

“Yeh I did feel vindicated. Phone hacking has been going on for a long time. The defendants claim for it all to be historical,” Prince Harry said (reshared by The Independent ). “Well, there’s a huge amount coming to light now that the British public especially simply have no idea about.”

When speaking about the tactics of some journalists, the duke went on to say, “Well there’s voicemail interception, blagging of flight records.” He continued, “It was always referred to as phone hacking but it’s the unlawful information gathering, and use of private investigators that was really the secondary part to this.”

Prince Harry settled a phone-hacking lawsuit with the Mirror Group Newspapers (aka MGN) in February of this year. The 39-year-old royal accused the publication of using unlawful methods for their reporting. In December 2023, per The Guardian , a high court judge awarded the duke £140,600 in damages after ruling that the royal’s phone was hacked “to a modest extent” from 2003 to 2009.

The documentary also features other celebrities affected by the scandal, including Hugh Grant, Charlotte Church and Paul Gascoigne.
