WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – An Alabama man was arrested on Wednesday night on grand theft charges.

On July 7, Washington County Sheriff deputies said they responded to a home on Cook’s Mill Road that was under construction.

Investigators said surveillance photos show an older Toyota Tundra pulled into the construction site, hooked up to a 6×14 utility trailer, and leaving the area.

Washington County investigators said they obtained information on the vehicle that came back to a deceased individual out of Ozark, AL. In the early stages of the investigation, a family member and her significant other who were living in the Geneva area had the vehicle.

According to investigators, 43-year-old Jeramie Lee Burleson used the vehicle to go to the construction site, steal the trailer then return it to Alabama. Burleson later traded the vehicle and sold the trailer, according to officials.

The new owner had a suspicion the trailer was “hot”. It was returned to Burleson who returned it to Cook’s Mill Road address with a different vehicle, officials wrote.

A warrant was issued for Burleson’s arrest.

Burleson was arrested in Geneva County and charged with grand theft. He is currently awaiting extradition back to Washington County.
