CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – Centre County is slowly transitioning to solar power, but some municipalities have experienced growing pains with the process.

Going solar is not as easy as putting panels on the ground. Municipalities have to update their ordinances to allow for solar, an often lengthy process.

Walker Township has been attempting to install solar farms for roughly two years now, but multiple delays have slowed the project down. Even Centre County’s Planning Commission could not give a timeline for when the proposed solar farms could be fully operational.

The planning commission says that other townships are looking to go solar as well.

“They are intending to see a large-scale development within not only Snowshoe Township but also Burnside Township,” Ray Stolinas, Director of Planning and Community Development, said.

As for when the proposed solar farms will be built along with if solar will continue to be a trend in the county remains to be seen.
