One mom's offbeat choice for her child's name has left folks gobsmacked.

A pharmacy worker was taken aback by the moniker , prompting a double-take when she encountered it.

She took to Reddit to share the story, sparking a lively discussion among users intrigued by the distinctive name .

Her post read: "I work in a pharmacy where we got a call from a mom looking for her kid's prescription (which we hadn't received yet)."

"She gave me his birthday and when I confirmed the name 'Westin' she said no, it's 'Cowboy.'

"I was caught off guard and I said, I'm sorry what? She told me they had changed his name legally to 'Cowboy' and lo and behold, the script came over with the first name 'Cowboy.' YIKES!"

Reddit users weighed in with their takes on the name.

One user commented: "The more I frequent this sub the more I realize that US is a crazy, crazy place."

Another remarked: "Sounds like Cowboy is already riding into some unique adventures."

A different user added: "Westin was already a bit weird, Cowboy is apocalyptically tragic."

Someone else quipped: "Maybe they named him after their favorite movie genre, but got it slightly wrong the first time, so they changed his name to something easier to spell."

And another said: "I knew a cowboy in high school. Glad to know he isn't the only one named as such."

While expressing concern for the youngster, another person commented: "Oh that poor child!"
