CHENANGO COUNTY, N.Y (WIVT/WBGH) – Chenango Ambulance Services is receiving thousands of dollars from the state to add a new ambulance to its fleet.

State Senator Lea Webb secured a $150,000 grant to purchase a Medix Type three ambulance.

The Director of Public Relations for Chenango Ambulance Michelle Elsmore says the current fleet is aging and requires costly upkeep.

Webb says the engine in the new ambulance is more cost effective and will be less expensive to repair, plus, its larger, which can accommodate larger crew sizes.

“Right now, we have three ambulances but unfortunately, two of them are out of service. So, we’re only operating on one ambulance. So, it becomes tough when there are multiple calls out that we might have the staffing to cover, but may not necessarily have the vehicles or equipment,” said Elsmore.

The new vehicle’s engine has increased horsepower, and weight, which will improve the department’s response capabilities on snow-covered roads and steep driveways.
