SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield city leaders gathered at a black-owned and woman-owned salon and spa on State Street to highlight the transformational enhancements enabled by the city’s ‘American Rescue Plan’s Small Business Grant’.

Mayor Sarno and the city’s ARPA team awarded The Hair Connection with a small business grant to help build back and recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nicole Sanders has worked at the salon for over 20 years and has owned it for the last 12 years
and this is the first time that they’ve been able to give their home some proper TLC!

Sanders emphasized that the pandemic really hurt business so this investment is a love letter to her devoted customers who supported them throughout those troubling times.

“With the 35,000 that I received I was able to get new stations new styling chairs, new hair, dryer, chairs, pedicure, manicure stations, and new shampoo sinks so it’s been wonderful to be able to have the clients walk into a brand new salon,” mentioned Sanders.

Before receiving these funds, the salon was only able to provide hair services, but now they are able to provide a whole host of other services such as health and beauty services like eyelashes.

For those interested in stopping by they are open Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 to noon and Thursday through Saturday from 8-6.
