( KRON ) — GIG Car Share, an on-demand car-sharing app powered by AAA, will permanently end its services by the end of 2024.

After its initial closure in Sacramento last year, the company said it would retire its cars in San Francisco and Seattle — GIG’s last remaining areas of operation in the country.

GIG said operations will officially retire on Dec. 27. They said cars will start getting phased out within the next coming months.

“Despite our best efforts, we faced challenges,” GIG said in an announcement to its loyal commuters.

The company listed various reasons for ending its operations, including “decreased demand, rising operational costs, and changes in consumer consuming patterns.”

“We are grateful to our Members and city partners for their support,” GIG said.

The company’s website describes GIG as “car sharing made easy.” The black Toyota hybrid cars could get picked up and dropped off anywhere within the company’s areas of operation — which covered most of San Francisco and much of the East Bay.

“Thank you for being a GIG Car Share member,” the company said, claiming ending its services was “a difficult decision.”

Other ride-sharing apps in San Francisco include Zip Cars. If riders are not trying to drive the cars themselves, then companies like Uber, Lyft, and self-driving Waymo cars are readily available for hopeful commuters.
