PERRY, Iowa — Officers with the Perry Police Department received a lifesaving donation on Wednesday.

SHIELD616, a national nonprofit, donated rifle rated body armor to officers. Jake Skifstad, founder and president of SHIELD616, said this donation is important to ensure officers can continue to serve their community safely.

“You know a lot of people in the community don’t realize when you see a police officer, that vest that we wear it’s meant to stop only handgun calibers and we’re trying to change that,” Skifstad said. “We all see what our law enforcement is up against and we want to make sure that they have access to that rifle rated protection and the Angel Armor vest is thin enough, light enough, and unbelievably effective enough to protect them on all their calls no matter what they’re doing.”
