DICKINSON, ND ( KXNET ) — Dickinson State University (DSU) has appointed two administrators from Mayville State University to oversee plans for getting their nursing program operational and ready for the fall semester when students return to class.

In an agreement between the two universities, Carey Haugen and Collette Christoffers will both oversee the hiring process of new nursing faculty staff after former teachers resigned from their positions at DSU earlier this month.

Haugen is the Dean for the Division of Nursing at Mayville State University and Christoffers serves as the Chairperson of that division.

Under the agreement between the two universities, they will both serve as Interim Co-Administrators for DSU during the transition.

Haugen and Christoffers both presented their plans to the North Dakota Board of Nursing (NDBON) during a formal meeting held in Bismarck on Thursday, July, 25.

Collette Christoffers says she and Haugen both realize that hiring new faculty and getting the program up and running again in a month will be a huge endeavor.

“We have support of our administrators at Mayville State University and a point of contact at DSU, that has been very helpful in navigating the university system there,” said Christoffers.

Both Christoffers and Haugen have already visited with some students and others in the community and say they have received a great deal of support for continuing the nursing program at DSU.

“The more we learn about the nursing program, we know it is loved by the community and that they just want it,” expressed Christoffers.

Christoffers added, “We are just hopeful this collaboration will put the nursing programs on the right path.”

The DSU Nursing Program is currently seeking applications and they hope to begin interviewing faculty candidates, starting next week.

Christoffers adds that their goal is to have the faculty hired by August 26 when students return to fall classes at DSU.
