The campaign of former President Donald Trump said he will not agree to any debates with Vice President Kamala Harris at the moment because Democrats could pick another nominee.

Harris is the presumptive Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid on Sunday.

In a statement issued on Thursday night, Trump’s campaign took exception to the late change and suggested Democrats could boot Harris at the convention in Chicago next month. Trump and Biden had agreed to a second debate, on September 10.

    The statement read:

Given the continued political chaos surrounding Crooked Joe Biden and the Democrat Party, general election debate details cannot be finalized until Democrats formally decide on their nominee. There is a strong sense by many in the Democrat Party – namely Barack Hussein Obama – that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump, and they are still holding out for someone “better.” Therefore, it would be inappropriate to schedule things with Harris because Democrats very well could still change their minds.

In response, Harris referenced an earlier pledge about the debates from the Trump campaign.

“What happened to ‘any time, any place?'” she wrote .

Biden ended his bid on Sunday, roughly three weeks after a horrendous debate performance . The spectacle alarmed many Democrats, including donors who withheld contributions until a change was made. Facing an enormous pressure campaign from major Democratic figures ahead of the August nominating convention, Biden agreed to step aside.

“Nothing will come in the way of saving democracy,” Biden said during an address from the Oval Office on Wednesday night. “And that includes personal ambition. So, I’ve decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. That’s the best way to unite our nation.”
