Prince William 'loathed' one thing Princess Diana did with him and Harry as children

Prince William, who has adapted well to his role as the future king, had one aspect of royal childhood that he didn't appreciate - and it wasn't just the constant public scrutiny.

As youngsters, William and Harry were often photographed with their mother , Princess Diana, whose iconic style was mirrored in the boys' clothing. However, Prince Harry reveals in his memoir 'Spare' that his elder brother wasn't as fond of their matching outfits as the public seemed to be.

According to Harry, William suffered from a severe case of embarrassed older brother syndrome during their youth. While studying at the esteemed Eton College, the now Prince of Wales once told his younger brother to pretend they didn't know each other.

Harry writes: "For the last two years, he explained, Eton had been his sanctuary. No kid brother tagging along, pestering him with questions, pushing up on his social circle. He was forging his own life, and he wasn't willing to give it up."

For the aloof older brother, who might have found it difficult to convince others they weren't related given their public personas from a young age, this reaction was expected. Harry alleges that William "loathed it" when Diana dressed them in identical clothes as children, or when "anyone made the mistake of thinking us a package deal."

Prince William's past discomfort at being photographed in public wearing matching outfits with his brother may have influenced his approach to dressing his own sons. Aside from their school uniforms, Princes George and Louis are seldom seen in public wearing identical outfits.

While Princess Kate's flawless fashion sense ensures the three Royal children are always impeccably dressed, George and Louis often sport slightly different attire. The rare occasions when the two princes were spotted in matching outfits include this year's Trooping the Colour, where both were seen in smart suits and red ties.
