We are just a day away from the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. And athletes from around the world are getting ready to showcase their incredible talents. Traditionally, the Olympic torch is carried from Olympia, Greece, in a torch relay to the host city ahead of the games.

The final runner will light the cauldron on July 26, signifying the beginning of the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad . Carrying the torch is a tremendous honor, and this year, a torch bearer made history.

An auto accident 11 years ago left Kevin Piette paralyzed, making him a para-athlete. He has changed the course of his life and become a tennis player whose goal is to persevere. Kevin took a giant leap for para-athletes this week in front of a crowd in France.

Kevin Piette made history as the first person ever to carry the Olympic torch and walk with the help of a robotic exoskeleton.

According to his profile on the Olympics website , Kevin is an inspiration, “Currently used in rehabilitation, a personal version of the exoskeleton is being developed at present to enable greater independence at home. By carrying the Olympic Torch, Kevin inspires people to get involved in sports and promote innovation for the disabled!”
