Carli Lloyd’s name is synonymous with women’s soccer, but the former U.S. Women’s National Team star nearly ended up playing another professional sport.

During a recent appearance on FanDuel’s “Up & Adams,” Lloyd admitted that she received heavy interest from a few NFL teams after hitting a 55-yard field goal during Philadelphia Eagles training camp back in 2019.

“[There] was pretty serious with a couple of teams,” Lloyd said . “It just worked out the way that it was supposed to work out. And that’s all that matters. But it was a cool experience just to show young girls and women around the world that anything is possible.

“I think if there is one position in the NFL that would be a possible position [for women, it’s kicker], not to say that you wouldn’t have big men running at you. Yeah, it was a cool experience, but it is done and dusted.”

Though being a trailblazer and record-setter in the NFL would have been awfully tempting, Lloyd made the right choice in sticking with soccer.

One of the most decorated players in the history of women’s soccer, Lloyd’s resume includes two Olympic gold medals (she scored the winning goal both times), two FIFA World Cup championships, two FIFA Player of the Year awards, a FIFA World Cup runner-up finish and four Olympic appearances.

Lloyd also has the second-most caps (316), third-most goals (134), fourth-most points (198) and fifth-most assists (64) in USWNT history.
