A crazed man who was declared dead by the Indian government went on a violent crime spree — stabbing three people — all to prove that he is, in fact, alive, according to reports.
Baburam Bhil, a resident of the Mithora village in Balotra in northwest India, received a death certificate from the government in his own name and thought his property was going to be seized, according to Indian outlet News 18 .
He tried to correct it, however in a last ditch effort to get the government’s attention to show he was alive, he allegedly decided to launch an attack at a local school, taking hostages and stabbing several people.
Bhil entered the Chuli Bera Dharana School of Balotra on July 19 allegedly armed with a knife and a bottle of gasoline.
Acting Headmaster Hardayal and teacher Suresh Kumar sustained serious injuries in the attack, WION reported . All those injured were taken to a hospital in Jodhpur.
Bhil was taken into custody by authorities.
He told police that after receiving his death notice he believed that the government was going to take his property.
