Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) faced continued scrutiny on Thursday after clips of him saying childless Americans should have less political influence went viral. Former President Donald Trump chose Vance as his vice presidential running mate earlier this month.

As a candidate for Senate in 2021, Vance gave a speech at an event hosted by a conservative group and said parents should have more political power than childless people. On Fox News the same year, he claimed the Democratic Party is run “by a  bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives.” The remarks have not gone over well with many, including Jennifer Aniston , who is childless.

“I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of the United States,” she wrote on Instagram.

Author Liz Plank piled on during Thursday’s edition of The Source on CNN.

“You do not have to give birth to biological children in order to have value,” she told host Kaitlan Collins . “And if anyone’s unclear about that, we should just ask any president we’ve ever had. We don’t question the contribution of men in our society because they don’t give birth. And so we shouldn’t be doing that for women either.”

He later added, “So for JD, Vance to denigrate an entire group of women based on an arbitrary skill that he doesn’t even have, is really embarrassing. And it’s not embarrassing for women. It’s embarrassing for him.”

Collins then noted that some conservatives have pointed out that Vice President Kamala Harris – who is the presumptive Democratic nominee – did not birth any children, though she has two stepchildren via Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff .

Olivia Nuzzi of New York magazine noted that the same behavior that put Vance on the conservative map is now coming back to bite him.

“There’s a certain irony in the fact that the qualities that made JD Vance a celebrity on the sort of MAGA right,” she said. His shitposting and getting involved in debates like this about culture wars and saying very fiery things in Tucker Carlson’s show – those are the same qualities that now are making people question him.”

“At a certain point, you can’t hide the Republican agenda anymore,” Plank responded. “At this point, the Republican ticket is sort of like a walking billboard for men who don’t go to therapy, or men who need therapy.”
