MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — People who live on Shin Point Road have filed numerous complaints about the dangerous conditions on their road that’s troubled them for years.

According to Marshall County Commissioner Rick Watson, the road was legally declared a private road in a lawsuit nearly 30 years ago, making it almost impossible for him to make any repairs.

As previously reported by News 19, after decades of complaints from homeowners about the mountainside road, Shin Point was finally getting some attention.

    But that was in February.

Watson hired a team that began service on the road on February 1st. After reassuring the homeowners that the road will be near completion in weeks, the repair has stalled.

Watson says records show that the original developers failed to properly register Shin Point Road with the county, thus making it a private road, while making it more difficult to manage the repair.

“It’s been a challenge and but it’s something that’s going to happen and I hope it’s something that the people will be proud of,” said Watson.

Watson explained that the only way to help the homeowners was to secure funding to build a water tower at the top of the mountain, therefore, making the county responsible for an easement that leads to the tower.

Watson says the homeowners were aware of the challenge to the road when they purchased their property.

“The road was in horrible shape when you bought the property there,” Watson explained. “But they went in there and bought the property and then they start having problems getting to their property and that falls back on me.”

Watson told News 19 that he expects the road maintenance crew to continue repairing the road within the next two weeks.
