    Black Canyon Fire, still causing multiple evacuations, getting closer to 10,000 acres

    WHITE SWAN, Wash. -- Updated at 7:30 p.m.: The Black Canyon Fire is 9,657 acres and has an unknown level of containment.


    The Black Canyon Fire (previously the North Wenas Fire) started on Monday, July 22nd, 2024 in Yakima County. It started off the 20700 Block of N Wenas Rd, in the Wenas area, Yakima County, WA. Below is up to date information.

    Acreage: 9,657

    Containment: Unknown

    Level 3 (GO NOW!) Evacuations:

    -North side of North Wenas Road from Longmire Road to Maloy Road

    -West boundary: Wenas Lake north to the LT Murray Ridge

    -Northern Boundary: LT Murray Ridge

    Level 2 (BE SET!) Evacuations:

    -South side of North Wenas Road from Longmire Road to Maloy Road

    -West side of Longmire Lane from North Wenas Rd to Naches Wenas Rd

    -West side of Naches Wenas Rd from Longmire Lane to Clemans Drive

    -North from the intersection of Naches Wenas Rd and Clemans Drive to Wenas Lake

    -Umptanum Road at Durr Road south to the county line

    Shelters: Selah Civic Center, located at 216 S 1st Street, Selah.

    Closures: Umptanum Rd is closed at Durr Rd
