Entering the 2024 campaign, the best quarterback in the Big Ten didn't play in the conference last year, let alone in the program he is now suiting up for.

On the latest episode of the College GameDay Podcast , host Rece Davis named who he believes is the top signal-caller among the 18 Big Ten teams.

"I think the best quarterback in the Big Ten is Dillon Gabriel," Davis proclaimed.

Gabriel put together an outstanding season in Oklahoma in 2023. He finished the year with 3,660 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, six interceptions, and 12 rushing touchdowns. He led the Big 12 in completion percentage, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.

Davis mentioned that health is the biggest roadblock to Gabriel's potential success this season. During the third game of his junior year, Gabriel suffered a season-ending broken left clavicle injury that forced him to take a redshirt season.

After three years with the UCF Knights and two with the Oklahoma Sooners, Gabriel chose the Oregon Ducks in the NCAA Transfer Portal this past offseason.

"If he stays healthy and has a big year, he can leave Oregon as college football's all-time leading passer. He's a little over 4,300 yards behind Case Keenum," Davis explained.

"He's within striking distance of touchdown passes and touchdowns responsible for. Oddly enough, he is tied for fourth on the all-time list of touchdowns responsible for with the man that he is replacing, Bo Nix, with 152. I think Gabriel is the best quarterback in the Big Ten and has a great chance to win the Heisman Trophy."

Despite the hype following Gabriel's arrival in Eugene, Oregon was not ranked ahead of the Ohio State Buckeyes. According to Davis, the Buckeyes have more depth and strength in other positions than the Ducks.

All the predictions and speculation will be tested when Oregon hosts Ohio State at Autzen Stadium on Oct. 12.
