Athletes
Greg Easton, BHS, 1965, football, baseball, basketball
3-year varsity football player for Fred Huff and member of school’s first undefeated team in 1964 … rushed for over 1,500 yards and passed for over 500 yards his last 2 years … led team in scoring with 79 points his senior year, outscoring teammate and future IU All-American Jade Butcher … also led team in total yards with 1,627 … B-Man award winner, all-conference 2 years and AP honorable mention as a senior … played a variety of positions in baseball for Marvin Groh, helping the Panthers to their only undefeated season and a 36-2 record over 2 years … batted .356 junior year, .441 senior year …led team in 6 offensive categories, including runs, total bases and stolen bases, also winning B-Man award in that sport … played one season in basketball and lettered… after attending Indiana University he joined the Bloomington police force, reached the rank of Captain and served as Deputy Chief.
Sara Fields (Hamidovic), North, 2000, volleyball, track and field
4-time medalist in state discus, winning gold in 2000 and Mental Attitude Award … silver medalist in 1999, fourth in ’98 and 9th in ‘97…finished 6th in shot put in 2000 … went on to U.S. Military Academy and excelled in both track and volleyball …won a combined 6 Patriot Conference titles in discus and shot … senior was also All-Conference in volleyball … school record holder in shot and power clean … graduated Army in 2004 with degree in Environmental Engineering … served 2 combat tours in Iraq, rising to the rank of captain … was 2nd in command of 145 troops in Iraqi sector, 2005-06 … also commanded a platoon of 30 Army engineers … post-graduation athletic career included MVP Award for U.S. Army Europe championship volleyball team … after 5 years of service was recognized as U.S. Army Disabled Veteran … continued environmental engineering career as a civilian and founded VET Environmental Engineering in Bloomington, 2013 and is president and CEO.
Greg Granger, Edgewood, 1991, baseball, basketball
Hard-throwing, 6-foot-5 righthander was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 44th round, 1991 ... pitched Mustangs to 1991 sectional title, beating Bloomington South in final ... all-state senior year after winning 10 games, saving 2 … finished with 132 strikeouts in 84 innings and a 1.75 ERA … batted .344 with 7 home runs … declined to sign with Braves and went on to pitch for Lake City Community College (now Florida Gateway College)… drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 7th round, 1993 … played center on Edgewood basketball team that reached sectional final in 1990 before losing to Top 10-ranked Martinsville.
Jordy Hulls, South 2009, basketball
Indiana Mr. Basketball in 2009 after leading South to 26-0 season and school’s first state championship … scored 1,046 career points … also named 2009 Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year … helped Panthers to 2007 Final Four before losing to Eric Gordon and North Central … went on to IU, helping Tom Crean resurrect Hoosier program … Hoosiers went on to Sweet 16 as junior and won the Big Ten title his senior year while also reaching No. 1 ranking and Sweet 16 again … set Big Ten record with 58 consecutive free throws made… his .493 3-point percentage is 6th all-time in league play … among IU’s top 5 in games played with 135 … his total of 1,318 points is 26th all-time for IU … 254 3-pointers is IU’s 2nd best and .859 free throw percentage 3rd best … Director’s Award winner at 2013 Spirit of Indiana Showcase … Third Team Capital One All-American… 9-year pro career in Europe with stops in Poland, Kosovo, Belgium, Germany … 2019 MVP of Europe Cup League … multiple seasons with 50/50/90 shooting splits, a German record … led MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg (Germany) team to league final four in 2022 … retired in 2022 to accept position of Mike Woodson’s staff at IU … with father J.C. Hulls is co-founder of Never Lose Hope, an organization that helps children affected by cancer.
Djibril Kante, North 1998, basketball
Indiana All-Star as leading rebounder and defensive hub of 1997 State champions … Cougars 66-9 in his 3 varsity seasons … Wendy’s All-Star Game participant … McDonald’s All-American nominee … Indiana Junior All-Star … … played four years at Indiana State on teams that beat IU twice, won a Missouri Valley title and were the first group of Sycamores to make consecutive NCAA appearances … 2001 club qualified for NCAA by winning Missouri Valley tournament and knocking off Kelvin Sampson’s Oklahoma team in first-round shocker … finished as in ISU’s top 25 in field goal percentage (17th), free throws attempted (17th), rebounds (8th), blocked shots (3rd), steals (20th) and games started (14th) … called “gentle guy” off court, “warrior” on it by ISU coach Royce Waltman … 7th all-time at ISU in rebounds, 3rd blocked shots … had 13-year pro career with stops in Switzerland, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, winning championships in Argentia and Uruguay … selected to 2023 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s Silver Anniversary Team.
Mike Mossbrucker, North, 1977, wrestling, football, baseball
3-year standout at North, highlighted by state wrestling title in 1976 … member of North’s state wrestling runner-up team in ’76 and team state champion in ’77 …3-year starter in football and baseball … defensive points leader in football, 1975 …member of 1977 sectional baseball championship team … wrestled as a freshman at Indiana University and went on to get B.A. and Master’s degrees … coached baseball, wrestling and football at Mooresville from 1982-97 … has over 40 years in education serving as athletic director for over 21 years, with 5 years at North … named to Indiana Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2011 and Mooresville Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014 … has served on boards for Indiana High School Athletic Association Foundation and National Interscholastic Athletic Association (NIAAA) … received NIAAA service award in 2019 … married to wife Terri for 39 years … sons Kyle and Mike were prominent athletes at Mooresville.
