The man arrested over the crossbow murders of a BBC racing commentator’s wife and daughters is paralysed, it has been reported.

Medics have said Kyle Clifford, 25, may never walk again after it is believed he fired a crossbow bolt into his upper body before police arrived at the cemetery where he was hiding.

It is said to have pierced his spinal cord, according to The Sun.

He was found unconscious by armed police the day after Carol Hunt, 61, and daughters Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, were discovered fatally injured at their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire.

Clifford reportedly turned the crossbow on himself in bushes at a cemetery close to his home in Enfield, North London.

He was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

It is alleged Clifford, previously in a relationship with Louise, took the three women prisoner before killing them.

John Hunt had been at a race meeting and arrived home shortly after police found his fatally injured wife and daughters in Ashlyn Close on July 9.

He has described the attacks as a “horrid evil that’s swept through our lives, wreaking devastation on an unimaginable scale”.

Paying tribute to the three victims, Mr Hunt and his third daughter, Amy, said: “The devastation that we are experiencing cannot be put into words.”

In a further statement read to Sky Sports Racing viewers by his colleague, Matt Chapman, Mr Hunt paid tribute to his “magnificently inspirational” surviving daughter.

He said: “Notwithstanding the horrid evil that’s swept through our lives, wreaking devastation on an unimaginable scale, the counter to that has been the breathtaking messages of support, some of which are still to be read.

“Amy, my eldest daughter, has been magnificently inspirational with her control and support for me, which I am trying, trying so hard, to replicate.

“Every message has felt so important, the same as a reassuring hug.

“We know people are worried about us. We will get through this.”

Clifford has been arrested and is conscious but not yet interrogated by police because of his condition.

Hertfordshire Police said: “The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate the incident.

“We would not comment on details of an individual’s medical condition.”
