Big Lots, a chain of discount retail stores, is slated to close 35-40 stores this year due to financial struggles.

Representatives have cited “elevated inflation” and decreased consumer spending as significant factors in this decision.

This closure is part of a broader trend affecting various retail chains such as Red Lobster, Rite Aid, and Bed Bath & Beyond, which have also faced financial difficulties and even bankruptcy.

A financial disclosure from Big Lots highlights the impact of the current U.S. economic challenges, stating:

“In 2024, the U.S. economy has continued to face macroeconomic challenges, including elevated inflation, which has adversely impacted the buying power of our customers.”

What Big Lots stores are closing in South Carolina?

While there are over 75 Big Lots locations in North Carolina, only one store is closing: the Durham location at 2000 Avondale Drive.

The store will be running sales until its closure, although the exact closing date has not yet been announced. Fans of the chain in North Carolina can breathe a sigh of relief as the majority of stores will remain open.
