Jeopardy! players slammed for refusing to take risks as they break awkward record

Jeopardy! fans were left screaming at their TVs as the latest set of contestants decided to play it safe and avoid high-scoring clues .

Champion Davey Morrison went head-to-head with Phil Gatton and Krista Boyd on Thursday night, but viewers were left disappointed with the outcome. The game was a runaway for Davey, who bagged his second victory with a score of $13,512.

As the three contestants entered Final Jeopardy, Davey led with $13,000 against Krista's $1,200 and Phil's $2,000, but fans are convinced the others could have clawed it back. Instead, the players seemed to avoid the higher-scoring clues, which were left on the board at the end of the game.

Taking to Reddit, one person fumed that the players seemed to have broken the record for the most clues left on the board. "Leaving 4 clues on the board is certainly a ‘record’ for one of Ken’s hosted games, right? At the very least, it’s probably the most left on the board this season," they said.

Another worked out: "According to thejeopardyfan, there have been a total of 25 unplayed clues so far this season, including 4 today. So today’s game accounted for 16% of all unplayed clues so far. Yikes."

A third viewer pointed out the missed opportunity for someone to try and end Davey's streak. They wrote: "I found it weird that no one was going for those $2k clues left on the board, ensuring a runaway.

"Correct me if I’m wrong but even without Davey losing any additional money it would have been possible for one of the other contestants to close the gap late (very unlikely though)." Another viewer chimed in: "Exactly. Once Ken announced a minute left and the challengers still having control, they needed to be going to the bottom of the board, not the small clues."

Other fans were critical of the low scores each player had at the time of Final Jeopardy and blamed the producers. "Once more for the producers who didn't catch it last time: Leave visual clues, including anagrams, on-screen until contestants have finished guessing," one person raged.
