Meet the 23 New Jersey Athletes Competing at the Olympics

NEW JERSEY -- When the Olympic flame is officially lit on Friday, July 26 in Paris, France for the opening of the summer games, 23 of New Jersey's finest athletes will be among the almost 600 athletes representing Team USA.
The more than 10,500 athletes competing in the XXXIII Olympiad hail from more than 200 nations, plus a team of international refugees, will compete in 32 sports between July 26 and August 11, 2024.
Sports range from traditional track and field, gymnastics, swimming, diving, basketball, volleyball and tennis to more youth-centric events, including sport-climbing, skateboarding, and surfing.
This year, breakdancing (or breaking) is making its Olympic debut.
So who are the athletes from New Jersey competing for Team USA?
Gymnastics: Hezly Rivera from Oradell . At just 16 years-old, Hezly is said to be the youngest athlete on Team USA.
Track and Field: Curtis Thompson of Florence who also was part of the 2020 team; Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone of Dunellen who participated in the 2016 and 2020 Olympics. She already holds two gold medals; Keturah Orji from Mount Olive, who also previously participated in the 2016 and 2020; Sam Mattis of East Brunswick; and Catarina Guimareas of Cranford (paralympian;)
Triatalon: Morgan Pearson of New Vernon who participated in the 2020 Olympics where he earned a silver medal.
