New York Jets Robert Saleh updates practice plan for two offensive starters

It's certainly a good sign that both offensive linemen are on the field at New York Jets Training Camp as opposed to starting the summer on the Physically Unable to Performer (PUP) list.

The presumed starters on the right side of the Jets' front five, guard Alijah Vera-Tucker and tackle Morgan Moses were limited participants for the first two preseason practices. Both hog mollies sat out team drills as they work their way back from surgeries.

According to head coach Robert Saleh, however, the temporary practice arrangement is likely to change next week.

"I don't want to give you a definitive day because we're taking it day at a time, but we're looking for next week, but it's going to be soon. They're very close, very close," said Saleh when asked for a projected timeline on the two important pieces.

Vera-Tucker, a 2021 first-round draft pick, has totaled only 12 appearances over the last two years due to injuries. In 2023, he suffered a season-ending Achilles tear five weeks into the schedule.

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old Moses made 14 starts for the Baltimore Ravens last year but needed offseason surgery on his pectoral muscle.

With the Jets bringing three new starters, including Moses, onto the offensive line, training camp reps are needed for cohesion to form.

"I'm not worried about it going that long. I guess that's why I'm kind of calm about it," said Saleh on Thursday in Florham Park. "They'll be on the field together sooner rather than later, but they're doing all the walkthroughs together. So, they're out in the walkthrough and they're going through the communication and then just those types of reps, but soon enough they'll be out in the live reps. Hoping for next week."
