In the 2000s and early 2010s, Urban Meyer was considered one of the top coaches in college football. Meyer spent two seasons at Bowling Green, where he went 17-6, but his time at Utah put him on the national map.

Meyer led the Utes to a 10-2 record in his first year. In his second and final season with the Utes, he achieved a perfect 12-0 record and won the Fiesta Bowl. Meyer then moved on to coach the Florida Gators, where he accumulated a 65-15 record over six seasons and won two national championships. After a brief break from coaching, Meyer returned to lead the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2012 and led them to a national championship in 2014. He achieved an impressive 83-9 record over seven seasons.

ESPN's Paul Finebaum was asked if he could see Meyer return to the college ranks and coach LSU. He said he doesn't see LSU's administration wanting anything to do with Meyer. He also pointed out how difficult Meyer can be to work with.

"I have a very difficult time believing that Scott Woodward and the administration at LSU would want anything to do with Urban Meyer," Finebaum said. "I know people say, 'Well, he's won three national championships.' But he's extremely difficult. He doesn't follow directions. He doesn't follow the rules, and everyone who has ever gambled on him ultimately gets burned."

Dec 4, 2018; Columbus, OH, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer addresses members of the media to announce his intentions to step down from coaching after the Rose Bowl game. Meyer held the press conference at the Ohio State University Fawcett Center.

Meyer last coached the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL in 2021. It was a disastrous season for Meyer, who went 2-11 and was fired before the season ended. He has since returned to FOX as part of its Big Noon Kickoff coverage.

Meyer has not expressed a desire to return to coaching. Despite his struggles in Jacksonville, Meyer is considered one of the best college coaches ever. It is possible that a team will give the national champion another chance in the future.
