Here’s Why Romy Park Says Poppy Can Stand Up To Katie On Bold and the Beautiful

Romy Park explained that The Bold and the Beautiful’s Poppy has had to fight against rumors claiming she only wants Bill for his money. Since Bill’s ex-wife Katie is now giving her the third degree, Poppy has to stand her ground and use her inner strength gleaned from being a single mother to protect her new family at all costs.

Gossip Can Be a Persistent Enemy

With everyone on B&B focused on the idea that they think Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) killed Tom (Clint Howard) and Hollis (Hollis W. Chambers), no one has really picked up on the fact that Poppy (Romy Park) and Tom had known each other in the past.

Before his death, Tom declared that her daughter Luna (Lisa Yamada) was also his — not Bill’s (Don Diamont). But he croaked before anyone else could find out. Now, Poppy is being scrutinized by Bill’s ex, Katie (Heather Tom), who’s been constantly questioning this newcomer. It doesn’t help that her sister Li (Naomi Matsuda) had previously told anyone who would listen that she thought Poppy was a gold digger. Up until Luna’s paternity test, she thought her sister was after Bill’s money.

Facing this new threat from Katie, Park took some time to talk to Soap Opera Digest about this new conflict. She explained, “Anybody who spreads gossip or tries to railroad you in some way, that stuff spreads and has a way of really infecting somebody and poisoning somebody’s mind.”

So Li laid the groundwork, and Katie took the ball and ran with it, trying to discern if Poppy was a threat to her family and her ex-husband. Park explained that Poppy needs to defend herself, especially against Katie who Bill seems to still have affection for. Considering that he still listens to Katie’s advice, Park made the prescient statement, “When a seed is planted, a seed is planted. Single Motherhood Brings Strength

Poppy will be able to stand up to Katie because “She’s a single mother,” Park said. “I absolutely think she can hold her own against anybody.

“I was raised by a single mother,” Park stated, further clarifying that “Single mothers are just used to being independent and doing things on their own. They’re not chatty people. They don’t wear their stories on their sleeves.”

She feels that single mothers don’t have time for gossip and victimhood because their children take precedence, and that’s exactly how she’s approached Poppy and Luna’s relationship. She considers the two characters more like besties than mother and daughter, which grants them an added level of comfort in terms of opening up to each other about intimate details of their lives.

But Park further stated that when Katie eventually questions her about her connection to Tom, the details of her personal life are nobody’s business, particularly Katie’s. She explained that Poppy is head-over-heels in love with Bill not because of his money but because of the emotional support he gives her, and the gold-digging rumor has no basis in fact.
