A Des Moines man was arrested and charged for stabbing a man at a hotel in Clive early Friday morning.

Clive Police Department officers were dispatched to the Days Inn, 1600 NW 114th St., around 3:30 a.m. for a reported stabbing, police said in a news release. The victim had been stabbed with a large knife, which was found at the scene, and was transported to a local hospital.

A 62-year-old male suspect from Des Moines was located by police near the scene, police said. The victim, identified as a 28-year-old male from Des Moines, had substantial injuries but is expected to recover.

Witness reports and evidence at the scene indicated that the two men knew each other and had got into a fight prior to the stabbing, police said.

The suspect was transported to the Polk County Jail and charged with attempted murder.

The stabbing remains under investigation and police say there is no threat to the public.
