Bill Ward Shares His Dream of Performing One Last Show With Black Sabbath

Gaining influence from drummers like Ringo Starr, Bernard Purdie, Joe Morello, and Keef Hartley, Bill Ward added his name to legendary drummers as he helped create the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Getting to take the stage alongside Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, and the iconic Ozzy Osbourne, the group went on to record hit songs like “The Wizard”, “Paranoid”, and “Sweet Leaf.” And while the decades brought them massive success, it seems that Ward would love nothing more than to play one final concert with Black Sabbath.

Over the years, Ward struggled with his health and alcohol, but according to his former bandmates like Iommi and Osbourne, they insisted the drummer has been sober for 30 years. Still, the musician continued to struggle with his health. Currently, 76 years old, the drummer decided to share a post on Facebook, giving an update to fans. He wrote, “Bill Ward checking in regarding all the updates on a possible Sabbath show in England. I’m in for playing some of everyone’s old favorites. Loved playing them then, I’d love to play them one last time.”

While sharing his thoughts surrounding one more concert with the band, Ward noted he wasn’t going to discuss his health. “I’m not going to talk about my health publicly except to say, everyday I’m pretty good for 76 years old, I’m active musically every day, and I have a very busy and gratifying life. Love you all, all the f**king time.”

Although fans loved the idea of getting the original Black Sabbath back together, Iommi shared his thoughts on the idea. “It’s a funny old thing, really. I mean, God, we’ll be 90 by the time we do that. [Laughs] It’d be a nice idea, but you’re gonna get everybody going, ‘Oh, they’re doing it for the money. They’re doing it for this, they’re doing it for that, they’re doing it…’ Well, it wouldn’t be.”

While explaining the backlash they might receive, much like Ward, Iommi found the idea extremely tempting. “I mean, it’d be something that’d be a nice thing to actually do, but whether it happens will be another thing. But we’ll see. I mean, who knows?”
