    School Bash

    An end of summer and back to school bash, hosted by Fort Deposit Police Chief Terry Steiner, will be held at Fort Deposit Park Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come out to enjoy food and fun for the school aged children of Fort Deposit.

    Community Reunion

    The Calhoun Community will host a reunion Aug. 3 at 55 Hayes Road in Letohatchee. For more information, contact Darrell at (205) 340-2440.

    School Begins

    Lowndes County Public Schools will resume classroom instruction on Monday, Aug. 5. All students must report to schools by 7:30 a.m. daily.

    Budget Hearings

    The Lowndes County Board of Education will hold budget hearings for the 2024 Fiscal Year at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, in the Board’s Central Office Auditorium; and 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024 at Central Elementary School. All interested parties are invited to attend.

    Mom Classes

    The Lowndes County Extension Office offers free classes for moms-to-be on topics like nutrition, physical activity, breastfeeding and more. Contact EFNEP educator Hannah Davenport at (334) 382-5111 for more information.

    Schools Hiring

    Lowndes County Public Schools are hiring bus drivers. For more information, please contact Raymond McCall at 334) 548-5060.

    Pre-K Program

    First Years Child Development Center, First Class Pre-K offers a free 4-year-old program from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for working parents and 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for non-working parents. Classes start in August. Space is limited. Call Katina Surles at (334) 281-8627 for more information.

    LCUWP Applications

    The Lowndes County Unincorporated Wastewater Project is accepting applications for septic system installation or repair at its office located at 507 W. Tuskeena Street in Hayneville. Call (334) 548-2006 or stop by Monday, Wednesday, or Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an application.

    Head Start

    The Lowndes County BOE has opened Head Start registration for children ages 3 and 4 for the 2024-2025 program year. Current immunization records, proof of income, and proof of age are required to register. Call (334) 548-2145 or visit www.lowndesboeheadstart.org for information.
