I know $900 sounds like a lot of money. But compared to $5,000? It seems like a no-brainer.

When you have to pick between spending hundreds versus spending thousands, usually the hundreds wins out, even if it involves putting in a little more effort. That's how dedicated DIYers make their decisions. If they can build a piece of furniture for much less than the asking price, you can bet they're going to give it a try.

When this creator saw that her dream sofa table was going to cost her five grand, she knew that was out of the question. Instead, she decided to head to IKEA to see what she could find to build it herself. And here's what she came up with!

People were so impressed with TikTok creator Annie, also known as @champagne.chaos , and her DIY sofa table that they accused her of editing the after footage. But nope, she's just that good at what she does!

In order to quell the doubts about her project, Annie took us through every step of the process, showing us exactly what she did and how she did it. Even though it was not a cheap project, it was still much more affordable than purchasing one of her inspiration pieces brand new.

    Here's how she did it!

How She Duped a $5,000 Table for Only $900

The main ingredient for this project? Five of the IKEA MALM white-stained oak veneer nightstands. Annie lined these up in a row behind her living room couch, using them as the foundation for her ultimate sofa console table.

After taking out the drawers, Annie first covered up the front gaps in between each stand to make the entire piece look cohesive. She applied a piece of wood oak veneer to achieve the same look for the top.

She constructed tall sides for the table, adding edge banding along every surface for an even more cohesive look.

She used two layers of white oak plywood for the very top and sealed everything with polycrylic. Last but not least, she added the drawers back in and secured on some bottom trim.

Not an easy project nor a cheap one, but she still managed to save money while doing it! Consider us impressed.
