In a weird turn of events, a cult classic film casting Mark Hamill from 1978, Corvette Summer, got the remake treatment in a Green Day music video.

Mark Hamill has been in many collaborations and has been featured on many different mediums. From voicing The Joker for many years in Batman: The Animated Series to playing Luke Skywalker from Star Wars almost every time the character appears. This week Green Day has released their new music video from their next studio album, Saviors, it features a remake of 1978’s Corvette Summer. Not only does Hannibal Burress star as a teacher in the video, Mark Hamill reprises his role in the music video as Kenneth Dantley, and he’s seen driving the Corvette (a claymation form of it) that was stolen in the 1978 film. The video can be seen below.

The new song is featured on Green Day’s 14th studio album, Saviors , and the music video doubles as an incredibly low-budget remake of the 1978 film of the same name, Corvette Summer . In the music video, a character called Mike builds a custom Corvette only to have it stolen, and after seeing someone drive around with it, he calls his friend “Kenny” (played by Mark Hamill) to recruit him to get the car back.

Green Day says, “The song was named after one of our favourite cult classic movies, so it only made sense to pay homage to it with the music video. We even took things one step further and got Mark Hamill (who starred in the original) to star in our remake alongside us, Hannibal Buress, and some others. We blew the entire budget on them, so we had to get creative with cardboard boxes, some duct tape and matchbox cars we found in Tre’s basement” regarding the music video.

Green Day’s newest album, Saviors , launched back in January 2024. Mark Hamill recently reprised his role as The Joker in WB’s Multiversus , and fans can see what else the actor is up to on his official X (formerly Twitter) account .
